Patented by 18th century watchmaker Abraham Louis Breguet, the invention of the Tourbillon is often cited as the most significant development in watch history. It consists of a regulating mechanism (balance wheel with hairspring) and a lever escapement, which makes one revolution in one minute. It eliminates effects of friction and earth's gravity. Among the world's most gifted watchmakers, only a select few are capable of manufacturing a Tourbillon: When a watch's escapement is in a vertical position, the earth's gravity either accelerates or slows the balance movement, causing a rate gain or loss. The Flying Tourbillon compensates for the gravity-induced gain or loss with its mobile carriage: Strap it on and go to a sushi restaurant downtown. Or to a jazz club on the Westside. As you converse with companions during a night in the city, mention the Flying Tourbillon, the most hailed watch in modern human history. We're sure your friends' curiosity will be piqued. Because of the Tourbillon you'll be the life of the party: The Flying Tourbillon, whose carriage is mounted on one side only, with no supporting bar, allows better visibility through the cutout window at 6 o'clock. The Tourbillon movement was Invented in 1795 by Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet . The Tourbillon counters the effects of gravity by mounting the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage, in order to negate the effect of gravity when the timepiece (and thus the escapement) is rotated. Originally an attempt to improve accuracy, tourbillons are still included in some expensive modern watches as a novelty and demonstration of watch making virtuosity. The mechanism is usually exposed on the watch's face to show it off. The Rougois tourbillon is a fine example of this movement. This beautifully designed mechanical wind up watch measures 42mm or 1 5/8 " wide and 12mm or 3/8 " thick. It has a 24 hour corresponding time zone indicator on the left dial. The right dial is the 24 hour day night indicator. The tourbillon oscillates and rotates itself around the axis of the frame every 60 seconds, thereby acting also as a second hand. The watch is not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye but also mesmerizing to look at while sitting on your wrist. This is not a faux torbillon movement or open heart movement, this is the real torbillon.
